Queensland Councils are becoming Small Business Friendly!

Rockhampton have just become the 17th council to join the Small Business Friendly Council (SBFC) charter. When a council joins the SBCF, they are making a commitment to the following;

  • communicate and engage
  • raise small businesses profile and capability
  • support resilience and recovery
  • simplify administration and regulation (red tape reduction)
  • ensure fair procurement and prompt payment terms
  • promote place-based activities.

The SBFC charter is an incentive developed by the Palaszczuk Government in conjunction with councils. The aim is to encourage local councils to actively support small local businesses to recover and build resilience following recent economic challenges.

The incentive helps both small businesses and councils, by allowing councils to access tools and resources to assist with small business resilience and recovery, use the Queensland Small Business Commissioner’s (QSBC) SBFC identifier and brand assets to promote their commitment to being small business friendly, promote their initiatives on the SBFC website and help attract investment and commercial opportunities to stimulate growth in the local economy among other things.

Small businesses get benefits such as their council having a greater focus on helping small businesses to grow and employ more local people, increased access to tools and resources to support business recovery and resilience, increased opportunities to promote and showcase your business and greater access to fair procurement.

Small businesses are the backbone of our country, which is why it is great to see that more councils are jumping on board to help support their local community. Here is a list of all 17 councils who have joined the Small Business Friendly Council Charter.
